What is CAPM Certification and its benefits?

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is an entry-level certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI®). It's designed for individuals looking to establish a career in project management but may not yet have the experience required for more advanced certifications like the Project Management Professional (PMP®). The CAPM certification serves as a stepping stone toward more advanced project management certifications and career growth.

How do I obtain PMP certification?

To become PMP certified, you must meet the eligibility criteria set by PMI, which typically include a combination of project management experience and education. Once eligible, you need to pass the PMP exam, which assesses your knowledge of project management principles and practices. After passing the exam, you must adhere to PMI's code of ethics and maintain your certification through ongoing professional development activities.

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI Certification?

CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management)
If you have a secondary degree (high school diploma, associate's degree, or the global equivalent), The CertifiNOW PMP/CAPM Prep course fulfills the education/training requirement for the CAPM® Certification.  Therefore, you will be eligible for the CAPM Examination as soon as you complete the CertifiNOW PMP/CAPM Prep course.

PMP (Project Management Professional)
In addition to the CertifiNOW PMP/CAPM Prep course, candidates must meet specific professional experience requirements to be eligible for the PMP exam. These requirements differ based on the level of education:
  • For those with a four-year degree:   
             
             - At least three years (36 months) of project management experience.  

             - CAPM® Certification or 35 hours of project management education/training.
  • For those with a secondary degree (e.g., high school diploma, associate's degree, or the global equivalent):   

             - At least five years (60 months) of project management experience.  

             - CAPM® Certification or 35 hours of project management education/training.

What is the format and structure of the PMI® exams?

All questions are multiple-choice, with one correct answer out of four options.

CAPM
The CAPM exam places an emphasis on understanding project management concepts and terminology as outlined in the PMBOK® Guide and Project Management roles and responsibilities.  The exam structure is as follows:
  • Number of Questions: 150 multiple-choice questions.
  • Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes).
  • Breaks: No Scheduled Breaks. You can take unscheduled breaks, but the clock will not stop.


PMP
The PMP exam tests a wide range of project management knowledge and skills and requires both knowledge and situational judgment.  The exam structure is as follows:
  • Number of Questions: 180 multiple-choice questions.
  • Duration: 230 minutes (just under 4 hours).
  • Breaks: Two 10-minute breaks.

What study resources are recommended?

Commonly recommended resources include:
  • CertifiNOW PMP/CAPM Prep Course & Training Materials
  • The PMBOK® Guide (Project Management Body of Knowledge), 7th edition.
  • Agile Practice Guide

How much time should I dedicate to studying for the CAPM or PMP exam?

We expect our students to pass their PMI Certification exam within 30 days of the last day of class.  Within those 30 days, the amount of study time varies depending on individual backgrounds and familiarity with project management concepts. 

Non-CertifiNOW students can spend 9 to 12 months preparing for PMI certification exams via self-study.

What is the cost of the certification exams?

PMI membership costs $129/year plus a $10 application fee. However, membership is not required for PMI Certification exams, and the cost varies based on membership status.

The costs for the CAPM exam are as follows:
  • PMI Members: $225 USD.
  • Non-PMI Members: $300 USD.


The costs of the PMP exam are as follows:
  • For PMI Members: $405
  • For Non-members: $555
